FAQ

What sorts of things can you help with?

I’m trained to work with a broad range of concerns, but some of the most common that clients bring include: anxiety, low mood or depression, issues with self-esteem, relational difficulties, the effects of trauma, bereavement and grief, navigating life transitions, exploring their sexuality or gender, making significant decisions… and sometimes just learning more about themselves within a safer space.

If you’re bringing a particular issue that would be better served by another provider with more specific experience or specialised training, I’ll always be transparent about this and can help you find someone suitable to work with.

What happens in the initial consultation call?

This is usually a video call where we’ll talk about what you’d like to explore in counselling and you can ask any questions you might have about the process or about how I work. This initial chat can help you make a more informed choice about whether I’m the right counsellor for you. This call is free and can last up to 20 minutes.

If we’re not a good match, I can offer you a referral or advice on choosing another provider.

How much do sessions cost?

Sessions cost £45.

I can also offer a reduced rate for a limited number of clients. If you are unwaged, on low income, or would otherwise benefit from lower cost counselling, please let me know when you make contact.

Where do sessions take place?

I work both online and in person.

  • I don’t currently have any online availability, but I will update as soon as anything becomes available.
  • I have some limited in-person availability on Sundays in private therapy rooms located in South Belfast.
What happens in the first session?

I’ll send you some information in advance and then during the session itself we’ll agree on a contract, before talking in more detail about what’s brought you into counselling, what your therapeutic goals might be, and take a holistic look at your life and circumstances.

Do you work with partners / families / children?

I currently only work with individual clients over the age of 18.

How long does counselling take?
  • Individual sessions last for 50 minutes as standard.
  • I offer short, medium, and longer term work, depending on your needs. It’s okay if you’re not sure what you need at the outset. I’d often recommend allowing for at least 4 sessions initially, and the majority of my clients see me for at least 10 sessions.
  • If you have something specific that you would like to dedicate a few sessions to without committing to a longer process, this is also a possibility.
